The House of Dadiani and the Dadiani Palace Museum, Republic of Georgia

This online publication, launched in 2023within the Civiconnect Digital Collections series, inaugurates an on-going development of information about the Dadiani Dynasty and the recent developments and current studies on-going at the Dadiani Palace Museum at Zugdidi, Republic of Georgia. This publication includes a revised version of an earlier website produced by the Smithsonian’s Asian Cultural History Program and its Office of Policy and Analysis, as part of a joint project funded by BP for which Paul Taylor served as Principal Investigator. Team members for the design and development of the previous site at the Smithsonian’s former Office of Policy and Analysis included Dr. Carole Nevers (director of that office),Lance Costello, Samantha Grauberger, and the initial web developers Matthew MacInnes and Scott McQuail Taylor; team members at the Smithsonian’s AsianCultural History Program (ACHP) included that Program’s director Paul M. Taylor and program manager Gregory Shook, both of whom took many of the photos used in the website during visits to the Dadiani Palace at Zugdidi; as well as Irakli Pipia who was part of the BP-funded research project in the ACHP before returning to Georgia where he moved on to his present position as deputy director of the Tsinandali Museum.

The current revised site, carried out in partnership with Civiconnect as part of its Digital Collections series, is setup as an on-going platform for including new information, working with Irakli Pipia of the Tsinandali Museum, the current staff of the Dadiani Palace Museum, and has benefitted greatly from the help of current ACHP team members MatthewLawrence Arnold and Dr. Robert Pontsioen. The Smithsonian team expresses its sincere appreciation for the efforts of the Civiconnect online publication team(see below) for their dedication and efforts to support this on-going research and publication project.

The authors also thank George Kalandia, the former Director of the Fund forSaving Dadiani Palaces,  and also Lily Beraia and Nana Pipia, the former Director and Deputy Director of the Dadiani Palace Historical Architecture Museum in Zugdidi, as well as Lika Mamatsashviliof the Georgian National Museum, George Dadiani, Founder of the Dadiani Union, and Dr. Boris Gagua, former Director of the National Parliamentary Library, and for their translations of website text we thank Lali Kereseldze, Ia Gorgisheli, and David Mchedlishvili.
